Special K Ranch Foundation
The SKR Foundation is a separate 501(c)(3) organization that supports Special K Ranch exclusively. It raises money for an endowment that benefits the ranch. The focus of the Board of Directors is to ensure the long-term sustainability of the ranch. SKR is the only beneficiary of the foundation.
What is the foundation's endowment?
It is a pool of invested funds in a diverse portfolio of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and fixed income accounts. It grows perpetually from donations and market appreciation.
How does the endowment help the ranch?
It provides five percent of its fair market value, annually, to the ranch to support general operating costs. The endowment is the best long-term way to support our residents, and it allows the ranch to keep its tuition/fee structure very low (approximately 1/4 of the industry standard). Since it is a permanent investment, it will never be “spent down” and it ensures that our residents will always have a place to call home.
What are the fundraising goals of the Foundation?
Our goal is to endow all resident homes on the ranch - meaning the operating costs required to run each home - will always be funded. To endow existing homes and to keep pace with future growth, the Foundation has set a fundraising goal of $500,000 per year. The long-term goal is to increase the endowment to $12,000,000 as the Phase II Expansion progresses over the next 10 to 20 years.
Can I get substantial tax breaks by supporting the endowment?
Yes! Donors can experience a variety of tax benefits and credits by contributing to the endowment. Please see the “Ways to Give” and “Planned Giving” sections of this website for more information.
How big is it?
As of year-end 2021, the endowment’s fair market value surpassed $6.6 million.
